Have you lost your Ascension doctors on your United Health Care Advantage plan?
Effective October 1, 2025, Ascension Wisconsin is no longer in-network for UnitedHealthcare members. Ascension's providers and hospitals in Wisconsin are out of network for people enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans and Dual Special Needs plans (Medicaid) in Wisconsin.
What does this mean for patients
-
Disruption for Medicare Advantage plans: Tens of thousands of UHC Medicare Advantage members in southeastern Wisconsin have been significantly affected by this network disruption.
-
Higher costs: Seeing an out-of-network provider like Ascension will likely result in higher out-of-pocket costs for UnitedHealthCare members. Make sure you understand the potential costs and coverage limitations before you see your provider.

-
Call your providers: Call your Ascension healthcare provider(s) to understand your specific situation and potential costs for upcoming appointments.

-
Right to continuity of care: You may have a right to a continuity of care if you are in an active, ongoing treatment for a serious or complex condition with an Ascension provider. Call UHC to confirm your eligibility for continuity of care and to understand the process for applying.
What options do you have?
Enrollment in a 5-star plan: You have the legal right to enroll in a 5-star Medicare plan. The 5-star Medicare legal enrollment period is a one-time, annual special enrollment period that runs from December 8 to November 30. It allows you to switch to a Medicare Advantage plan that has a 5-star overall quality rating if you live in an area where a 5-star plan is offered. In 2025, Network Health has two 5-star Medicare Advantage plans that serve southeast Wisconsin. Your election in the plan becomes effective as of the first day of the month following your enrollment in the plan.

-
Wait for the Medicare's open enrollment: The upcoming open enrollment period which runs from October 15 through December 7 is your annual period to shop for a new plan that covers your Ascension doctors. By using this enrollment period, your election for your new plan begins January 1, 2026 (and you remain on your current plan through December 31, 2025).
